Andy Murray was born on May 15, 1987 in Glasgow, Scotland to parents Will and Judy. He was born with a medical condition known as bipartite patella, which was diagnosed when he was 16. This condition does not prevent him from playing but it does cause him a lot of pain while he is playing. Murray is often seen holding his knee cap during matches; this is because of the sudden pain.
Sports runs in Murray’s family – his grandfather Roy Erksine was a professional footballer, and Murray’s brother Jamie is also a professional doubles tennis player. As a child, Andy Murray attended Dublane Primary School and he was present at the Dublane School massacre in 1996. He is still reluctant when it comes to speaking about that incident.
Andy Murray declined an offer to train with the Rangers Football Club to move to Spain. In Spain he attended Schiller International School and practiced tennis with Emilio Sanchez.

Murray’s playing style has been regarded as fast paced by critics. Tennis coach Paul Annacone says that Murray might as well be the best counter puncher in today’s world. Murray can play groundstrokes with a minimal error rate. He can also anticipate the opponent’s moves, react and transition from defense to offense during a match. He is known for suddenly increasing pace during the game.
Murray has a long term girlfriend named Kim Sears. She is often seen at his matches, cheering her boyfriend.
