Andy Murray Victory at Grand Slam: British star Andy Murray beat Serbian Novak Djokovic in a historic Grand Slam tennis final. The 25 year old lifted the US Open trophy in New York after a 7-6 (12/10), 7-5, 2-6, 3-6, 6-2 victory. The match was a tough one between the British player and the Serbian; it lasted for almost five hours and the weather was very windy.
Andy Murray took home the glistening trophy and a prize of $1.9 million. He spoke to the television media saying that he is extremely relieved, and he has worked hard for a lot of years. He added that after several defeats he has learnt how to come through in a match as difficult as this. Murray said that the game was tricky due to the windy weather.
The British welcome the trophy after a staggering 76 year wait. Murray said he was happy for himself and for the country. He hoped that England can move on from the past and that there will be no 76 year wait anymore.
This has been a glorious few months for England. Firstly, they stunned the world by hosting a great season of the Olympics and the Paralympics. Then the British bagged a large number of gold medals at the Olympics which followed a gorgeous victory at the Tour De France. The Championship League was won by world favorite team Chelsea. The men’s Grand Slam tennis champion title has also come to the British now. This has added the perfect last cherry on top for the overjoyed nation. Perhaps this enchanting spell began after the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee (60 years) celebrations earlier this year.
Andy Murray played against the defending champion of the men’s game. This was the fifth time Murray played in a Grand Slam final match. He has been defeated for the past four Grand Slam finals.
