God of War Reviews and Photos – When Sony Computer Entertainment Santa Monica unveiled a rather unusual third person action game titled as God of War, the much anticipated Greek-mythology hack-and-slash game was an immediate success.
Exclusively released on the PlayStation 2, this gritty action game took the hack-and-slash genre to a whole new level, giving games of the future a new dimension to exploit. The game enables you to control Kratos, a servant of Ares; the God of War. Throughout the game you combat numerous mythological creatures which have been extremely famous throughout the course of history. Characters such as Medusa, Athena and Ares make standout appearances backed with superb voice acting and animations. God of War also set the benchmark for graphics on the PlayStation 2. Unparalleled lighting effects and never before seen scaling of levels were a huge bonus to this tremendous game.
In terms of game play and story, the game starts off with Kratos jumping off a cliff towards his death, claiming that the Gods of Olympus have abandoned him. The narrative is done by a Titan: Gaya and it is a flashback-style narrative which adds to the diversity the game has shown. Kratos appears to have two blades (The Blades of Fury) chained to each of his arms which sling towards the enemy when used. This major aspect of game play added a whole new dimension in itself. God of War also used puzzle solving aspects such as the likes of numerous plat formers in the past.
Overall, God of War is a breakthrough game which has set standards for the games to come. The good news is that there is a sequel expected to continue this amazing story. All in all, a near flawless game which is bound to be enjoyed thoroughly for ages 18 and above.
