How I Met Your Mother Season 8 Premiere- When Do We See the Mother?: To be brutally honest, I was expecting a lot more from the season premiere of one of my most beloved TV shows. How I Met Your Mother started slow in the first episode of season 8, which was aired this Monday. Yet again, I was not blown away by anything new on the show. And the most depressing part – the ‘mother’ still hides behind her yellow umbrella.

The show has come a long way now. How I Met Your Mother started as a fun, comic and light hearted story. However by the time HIMYM season seven started, there was sadness, disappointment, failure and gloom everywhere. We saw a lonely and single Ted, a failing and yet again single Robin, and Barney struggling to keep up with his games (which clearly did not make him happy anymore).

The only winners on the show are Lily and Marshall – the couple stands in contrast to the rest of the gang. These two have something that no one on the show has: true love, sincerity and steadfastness. Lily and Marshall’s comeback on season 8 was as dim as it could get. Both of them were portrayed as sleep deprived new parents (by season 7 they had their son Marvin).

The cliffhangers that we were all left with by the end of season 7 still remain. We do not know whether Robin and Barney will get married; neither do we know whether Ted and Victoria have a future together. There was also no hint of what really went wrong with Barney and Quinn’s (his stripper girlfriend) engagement. Not to mention, the yellow umbrella and calves of the ‘mother’ made a rather annoying comeback, as it was all we got to see.

There is still no word about whether HIMYM season 8 will be the last one. If there is another season in the oven, and if it is this disappointing, I don’t know whether or not I will be left with a fond memory of my favorite show.
