New Blackberry 10 Platform Launched

New Blackberry 10 Platform LaunchedTagged as the most ‘comprehensive launch in mobile phone history’, the finale of the Blackberry 10 was launched on Wednesday. Research In Motion Ltd. (RIM) launched two smartphones that run on the much talked about Blackberry 10 operating system.

With the new operating system came another bomb that was launched by the Research In Motion CEO Thorsten Heins – the company will now be called Blackberry Limited. Thus, RIM’s new ticker symbol will be BBRY.

Formally introducing the company’s new masterpiece, Thorsten Heins said that the release of this new Blackberry 10 platform was a new day in the history of Blackberry. Earlier, despite not being the frontrunner for the most innovative smartphone technology, Blackberry has garnered millions of devotees around the world with its uniqueness.

In his speech, Thorsten elaborated that Blackberry Limited has transformed itself inside and out – and a major part of that transformation was the change of name from RIM to Blackberry.

The company has a lot of expectations from the Blackberry 10 platform. It will either make or break Blackberry in the rat race between smartphone giants like Google’s Android, Apple, and even the latest Windows Phone by Microsoft. A new operating system is just the leap Blackberry needed to stay in the smartphone race.

Two variations of Blackberry 10 will be released at first: the Blackberry Z10 and the Blackberry Q10. The former will be a touch screen phone, and the latter will have both a keyboard and touch screen features. The Blackberry Z10 touch-phone will be available for United States patrons in March, via all major phone carriers including AT&T, Sprint, Verizon and T-Mobile. The expected price for Blackberry Z10 was quoted at approximately $ 199.

On the other hand, the Blackberry Q10 will make its buyers wait till April 2013.

The Blackberry 10 software is not launching alone; along with it almost 70,000 apps will be launched, including Skype for Blackberry and Facebook.
