Sahara Davenport (Antoine Ashley) Dies at 27: Sahara Davenport, who was better known as the American drag queen, died on October 1st at the age of 27. The cause of his death is still unreported. Sahara Davenport’s death was announced by many sources, one of which claimed that he died in September.
Davenport became famous after appearing on the show ‘RuPaul Drag Race’ as a contestant. A judge of the TV show, Michelle Visage has also confirmed Sahara’s demise. A statement was released by the Logo network which confirmed Sahara’s death.
In the statement Logo announced the death of Sahara Davenport and said that they are all saddened at the passing of the amazing entertainer. The people at Logo network paid their condolences to Sahara’s family and friends, and his boyfriend Karl, who is also known as Manila Luzon.
Luzon tweeted a simple but heartbreaking message on Twitter, saying that he loves him very much. RuPaul of the RuPaul drag race also tweeted saying that Sahara’s death is shocking and heartbreaking; and he thought his girls were immortal. Others who paid their condolences via social media are Andy Cohen, Jujubee and Michelle Visage.
There is also some confusion regarding Sahara Davenport’s age at the time of death; some sources suggest that he was 29 whereas according to Queerty he was 28. A New York Times profile suggests that Sahara Davenport died at 32; the official year of birth listed is 1984. These inconsistencies have not been cleared by anyone as yet.
Davenport was born as Antoine Ashley on December 17, 1984. He started his career from his hometown Dallas, while she was going to the Southern Methodist University. He had a degree in dance (Bachelor of Fine Arts) and was a regular performer at many New York City gay bars and clubs. In addition to being a classically trained dancer, Davenport was also an occasional singer.
