The Vampire Diaries Season 4 Premiere Growing Pains: The favorite on screen vampires (and werewolves) are back with yet another scrumptious season of The Vampire Diaries. Elena, Damon, Stefan and Klaus continue to fight for existence and love in the all new episodes. First episode of The Vampire Diaries season 4 was premiered on Thursday, October 11, 2012.

According to an audience poll, the previous season of The Vampire Diaries was the most happening and intriguing of all. As expected, the season 3 finale left the viewers with many nail biting cliffhangers and mysteries.

After choosing not to become a vampire herself, Elena becomes victim of an unavoidable situation. She and Matt meet an accident, their car is plunged into a river (the same where her parents died) and she dies. It does not end here – she had vampire blood in her system at the time of her death, given to her by Dr. Fell. This means that in this week’s season premiere we will see Elena waking up as a vampire!

At the end of season 3, Elena chooses Stefan over Damon, claiming that she met him first and that Stefan was there for her. However at the time of her death a compellation put by Damon wears off and she remembers that she met Damon first – so will she change her mind about Stefan? This is another big question that will be answered in season 4 of the Vampire Diaries.

Another couple of deaths left the viewers astounded and in tears. The first was the death of Alaric Saltzmann, who gives up on life after struggling helplessly with his inner self. Saying goodbye to Ric was not easy already, and we got another shocker with Klaus’ death. However in the end we see Klaus return to Mystic Falls in an all new demeanor; this will be another twist Damon and Stefan will need to face.

The Vampire Diaries is based on the books of the same title, written by author L J Smith. Since the books have not yet come to an end, we do not know whether Elena chooses Damon or Stefan – for that we will have to wait.
