Tumblr Outage Causes Loss Of Almost 100 Million Views
Tumblr Outage Causes Loss Of Almost 100 Million Views: Blogging is an important part of the social media today, and Tumblr is a site that has made blogging easy. However, an unexpected outage of the Tumblr blogger caused a loss of over a hundred million views in one day. The outage that caused so much loss and trouble at the same time actually lasted for barely four hours.
Tumblr is an extremely easy to use platform. It is blogging made easy for the novices. The blogging website hosts blogs on almost every topic.
The Tumblr outage began with a couple of error messages and slow loading problems. An apologetic screen saying ‘We are sorry’ appeared on the homepages of many Tumblr users. The message also reassured that engineers have been dispatched to fix the bug causing this server error.
However, the matter took a slight turn and the ‘bug’ turned out to be a major issue. Thus, the administrators at Tumblr decided to take down the whole website for a couple of hours – this was done to speed up the website recovery process.
The staff blog had issued a formal statement regarding the outage – the statement said that the engineering process had seriously failed; causing a four hour outage that lost its viewers over 100 million page views. The statement also added that this is not the first time in this season that Tumblr has undergone similar trouble.
The staff blog at Tumblr further emphasized that the blogging site’s success lies in their millions of bloggers’ success.
Since Tumblr was out for the day, users resorted to Twitter to whine and complain about the Tumblr black out. One tongue in cheek tweet implied that Tumblr is in such a sorry state now that that the website does not even load the apology page.
Every time there is a website outage, the first suspicious goes to hacking and web crimes. However, nothing similar to that has been implied here, and Tumblr is only experiencing some technical issues.
